AUSTEN Gupta Cheethirala

Our darling Austen was born at 5:56 pm on Saturday, October 28, 2000.  He was 20 and a half inches long and weighed in at 8 lbs 12.6 ounces.  He was proudly welcomed by mom, dad and Grandma Ruth!!

It hasn't taken Austen long to entwine himself in the hearts of all who have met and seen him!  He is a sweet natured and very alert little boy who loves listening to the voices of his mommy and daddy and likes to look around at bright lights.  He is already becoming a little traveler like his parents.
first Christmas
Grandma Ruth got to spend my first two weeks with me and my parents.  While visiting she began working on my Christmas stocking which she finished Christmas Eve just before I came to see her!

Angel face
For Christmas Austen flew to Portland, Oregon to visit his maternal grandparents and aunts and uncles.  He had lots of people to meet as well as great grandparents, great aunts and uncles and cousin Zoe.  It was a happy flight and he traveled well.  The visit was much too short and
we are all anxiously awaiting the next time we will get to see him in the living flesh!  Hope it won't be too long as these little ones change so quickly!
Sleeping Newborn
Isn't he just the CUTEST little thing in the whole wide world??
Napping with Grandma
We had a brief visit on AMTRAK as Grandma and family traveled through on the way to Spring Break vacation.
There were lots of people to keep Austen busy.  He welcomed the nap time as much as Grandma enjoyed and savored snuggling with him.
Train ride with Daddy
Although the trainride visit was brief, it was wonderful to get to see Austen and all the growth that he has made!  He was five months old when he rode the train in March.  We hadn't seen him since Christmas.  He's just getting cuter and smarter every day!
It's been nearly a year since this angel entered our lives!  Austen is now a fully mobile creature, crawling rapidly on all fours, pulling up to and getting into everything, and walking on his own.  He is preparing for surgery on Sept. 11th to remove a cyst from his head that was there at birth.  His parents have purchased a townhouse and are moving into their first real home in the lovely town of Hayward where Austen was born.  Mom and dad are enjoying being a family and experiencing the wonders of raising a happy little guy who keeps them busy guessing what he'll learn and want to discover next.  Grandma Ruth is stuck in a time warp watching video coverage of his first six months and being amazed to hear how much he has developed since their last actual contact, and  hoping to hold him again soon!
Austen at eight months
Surgery went well, they're all moved into the townhouse and I'm looking forard to an AMTRAK visit to celebrate Austen's first birthday with them all!
WHOOPEE!  Will make a birthday page when I return.  (10-16-01)--RUTH
